EPHEMERAL ECOLOGIES

Do you feel you are a part of nature?

Ephemeral ecologies is a study in aesthetic relations growing out of a research on forest ecologies. Weaving visual art, language and sound into each other, it is an attempt at a dialogue with nature. Within this ongoing call and response, Silvana strives to create an environment and an experience that is at its core non-linear and a-rhythmic, yet immersive. Constantly becoming, maybe nature never is, maybe we never are

In her process of learning about forest ecologies, Silvana began to conceive of ecology as a sensitive and never-ending dialogue that is always deeply rooted in the present. Wishing to dive deeper into her interest in aesthetic relations, she began a process that was inspired by this complex form of a dialogue without conclusion or finite solution. Starting from vocal experimentations and deep listening practices within the little woods interrupting Portuguese vineyards around Maceira, she then translated these recordings into drawing. Over time, her process developed its own dynamic until at some point, Silvana started composing the elements aiming to build an environment within the exhibition space. More field recordings as well as additional vocal recordings were conducted. Finally she composed a soundscape for the mosaic mural, that by then consisted of 98 individual charcoal drawings.
