MOMENTS OF BEING

Where was I? What has it all been about? […] I can’t remember a thing. Everything's moving, falling, slipping, vanishing.... There is a vast upheaval of matter.

Virginia Woolf - The mark on the wall

Where does a story begin when nobody is on the stage saying "Once upon a time"? Does my vision have to blur before I start dreaming? and where does change begin, individually, socially, aesthetically?

“Perceiving differently is perceiving something else.”

Moments of being was as theatrical installation by kaleidoskop collective, which was founded by Barbara Lenartz and Silvana Mammone in 2018. The women came together to create out of their shared fascination for immersive performance concepts.

Inspired by Virginia Woolf's experimental short stories and Ludwig Wittgenstein's philosophy on perception and certainty, Moments of Being created a labyrinth in which perception became action and our senses reinvented reality. The project as a walkable installation explored our concepts of reality and identity. Visitors were invited to impulsively and curiously discover the passageways and hidden places of this labyrinth. The work as a homage to Virginia Woolf translated her experimental and impressionistic style of writing to the context of performance and installation. Inspired by this brilliant writer, Moments of Being, named after the short story of the same name, sought to capture the fleetingness and at the same time intensity of a moment. Inspired by Wittgenstein`s philosophy the work aimed at inspiring a curiosity and playfulness within visitors.
