My savage one, my dear one
I have a tiger pacing up and down my mind
lightly stepping on these cloudy thoughts of mine
Years and years ago
I put her on a leash, the savage beast
And so for years and years I had a tiger
begging me to elongate
the leash she grew to hate
And so I did
Together we travelled the world
And while the leash grew longer
My heart grew stronger
And yet the tiger in my mind
This savage beast, my dear one, whose longing never ceased
How often had I gazed into her yellow eyes
yet failed to see the bright green shimmer
a reflection, slightly dimmer, of the place we used to roam
and the echo of the echo of a tone
Now we trace the leash back from where we came
Years and years ago, when I put my tiger on a leash
to try to tame the jungle, but alas!
I trapped the beast
My savage one, my dear one: My longing never ceased.
